Threats on 2010 World Cup will be punished
Feb 8, 2010 3:38 PM | By Sapa

People who threaten to disrupt the much awaited soccer world cup in June will face the full might of the law, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa warned.

"Any criminal or would-be-criminal who threatens the safety of the 2010 Fifa World Cup will meet the full might of the force," he said.

"We will not be subjected to such unbecoming behaviour and will not tolerate this nonsense," said Mthethwa.

Soccer is my favourite sport! I am still confused about what is in it for us. To date I am not able to afford a ticket for any of the games.
This angers me to the extend that I for one are planning to go and see the games for free. I am sure that there will be ways of sneaking into the stadiums....
Shocked

Free condoms at 2010 WC fan parks
12 February 2010

■’Use the rubber, it’s worth it’ - Khanyi Mbau’s condoms of choice

FOOD and alcohol will not be allowed at 2010 World Cup fan parks. But if you show up, you will get freebies – condoms and sex education leaflets – that will be handed out.

This is a part of the Gauteng department of health and social development’s massive safe sex campaign to coincide with the tournament.
Department spokesperson Mandla Sidu said yesterday: “The campaign will focus on educating people about safe sex and the role played by alcohol and drugs in the spread of HIV-Aids.
“Soccer stars and the South African Professional Football Union will be approached to form part of the education drive to reach as many people as possible during the World Cup and beyond. The entertainment industry will also be targeted with closer focus on bars, clubs, hotels, brothels, fan parks as well as park and ride facilities,” Sidu said.

On Tuesday health and social development MEC Qedani Mahlangu met members of mayoral committees responsible for health, social development and emergency medical care to discuss plans to improve service delivery in the province.
They also discussed the province’s readiness to implement the new HIV-Aids treatment protocol from April. The new protocol requires that anti-retroviral treatment should be provided to all patients co-infected with TB and HIV if their CD4 count in 350 or less.
